Thankful

There is too much to be grateful for to fit in one social media post, so I'm using my blog instead.

-I'm thankful for the new music this year, from Daughtry and Lzzy Hale's version of "Separate Ways," to Miley Cyrus and BabyMetal's output, to Jack Black singing "Peaches," to the two rock albums with Joel Hoekstra on guitar, to Brandi Carlile with Brandy Clark and Catherine Carlile, to The Beatles' "Now and Then" to Dolly Parton's "Rockstar," especially the collaborations with Ann Wilson, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Miley Cyrus, Brandi Carlile and P!nk, Debbie Harry, Rob Halford, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, and Ronnie van Zant, Gary Rossington and Artimus Pyle.  I'm also thankful for finding YouTube clips of Stevie Nicks with Fleetwood Mac, Heart and Peter Frampton on the Midnight Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd at Winterland in 1975 and Black Sabbath on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert in 1975.

-I'm thankful for 3 new video games especially; Fire Emblem Engage, Stray Gods and Gigabash, the first due to the characters Alear (Laura Stahl), Marth (Yuri Lowenthal), Yunaka (Laura Post), Lapis (Kimberly Woods), Citrinne (Brittney Karbowski), Panette (Melissa Hutchison), Merrin (Cristina Vee), Veyle (Megan Harvey), Nel (Liz Morey), Madeline (Sarah Anne Williams), Lucina (Alexis Tipton), Micaiah (Veronica Taylor), Eirika (Kira Buckland), Lyn (Wendee Lee), Edelgard (Tara Platt) and Dimitri (Chris Hackney).  They have nice bonds and a compelling story against the dark dragon Sombron, fighting for justice against his darkness.  The next also has a nice cast in Grace (Laura Bailey), Freddie (Janina Gavankar), Calliope (Ashley Johnson), Pan (Khary Payton), Apollo (Troy Baker) and Persephone (Mary Elizabeth McGlynn).  The story is also nice, though bittersweet, but a good musical rendition of a point-and-click.  Gigabash is a giant monster fighting game that features ancient warring titans Gorongong, the giant protecting S-energy, Rohanna, the Amazon flower monarch, Woolley, a giant yeti, Pipijuras, an evil alien, and others, including DLC packs featuring Godzilla, Kiryu, Gigan and Destroyah and Ultraman, Ultraman Tiga, Camearra and Baltan.

-The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released and it was really great.  It didn't need to do much to beat the 1993 "in name only" movie, but I was impressed by how many power-ups made it into the film and that they nailed Bowser's characterization with Jack Black's goofy, yet fierce performance.  I also experienced some works by Hideaki Anno, such as Shin Ultraman and Evangelion episodes 9-11 and movie 2.22.  A YouTube user elaborated that Anno likes to show humanity's enduring, relentless spirit in his works by having the human characters persevere against impossible odds.  In Shin Godzilla, a chemical coagulant stops the monster within an hour of a nuclear weapon being launched in a last-ditch effort.  In Shin Ultraman, Ultraman teaches humanity a complex mathematical formula so they can avoid the death weapon, and while Ultraman easily beats two monsters early on, humanity is tempted by aliens to become "gods" like Ultraman.  Ultraman and humanity refuse, because this path would mean sacrificing themselves, their humanity, for power's sake.  In Evangelion, Shinji and Asuka are first forced to be roommates, then synchronize themselves against a monster that can divide.  The next one is in a volcanic core, making Asuka wear an inflatable suit that makes her look obese to withstand the heat and pressure.  When things go wrong, Shinji helps her.  The last episode sees Shinji, Asuka and Rei try to navigate headquarters with the power out and a monster on a rampage.  The film has Shinji fight alongside Asuka, try to keep her safe when a monster infects her mech, new character Mari turn that mech into a beast (something Asuka can apparently do herself based on the screaming Japanese in Godzilla; Battle Line), Rei almost get killed by the 10th Angel (also a unit in Godzilla; Battle Line) and Shinji apparently kill it, with Ritsuko voiced by Colleen Clinkenbeard so she sounds like Erza Scarlet.

-I saw 2 great Major League baseball games, the Mariners beat the Blue Jays 3-2 with former Blue Jay Teoscar Hernandez scoring the winning run on a walk-off single, and the Mariners beat the Padres 2-0 with Julio Rodriguez robbing Fernando Tatis Jr. of a home run and Logan Gilbert pitching a personal record 12 strikeouts.

-I only saw one concert, but it was a good one, Carrie Underwood at the Climate Pledge Arena.  I don't know when my next concert will be, but I have tickets to see the Seattle Kraken play the San Jose Sharks and the Seattle Mariners play the Atlanta Braves in April. Next week I plan to buy tickets to see the Mariners play the Royals and the Phillies next season, I want to see Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, Bobby Witt Jr., Trea Turner and Bryce Harper against the Mariners, who will hopefully win.  Judas Priest and Artimus Pyle are also both releasing albums next year I'm looking forward to, these will be the last physical albums I will buy, going fully digital from here on out.

It hit the fan

I’ve had enough.  I genuinely don’t feel like a valid human being.  I feel challenged on so many things, like I’m not allowed to think or believe them because people tell me doing so is a sign of mental retardation, gross stupidity or pledging your soul to Satan.  I was antagonized through school about Godzilla, then Christianity, then antagonized in Church over being an LGBTQ+ rights ally, then that criticism spread nationwide when they made that the federal rule, bringing back criticism for being Christian from the other side, then criticism of liking the anime Fairy Tail which they judged inferior for unclear reasons, RWBY for “going woke,” both of which were comforts during the rise of fascism and anti-Christian sentiment and then, the worst of it all, they constant death threat art against the Black Eagles route of Three Houses probably because it was pure catharsis for left-leaning people frustrated by the fascists, but wasn’t out and out communist, Edelgard clarifies her “enemy [is] the Church not the faith” and has support conversations with Manuela exploring the distinction between faith in a God and an organization abusing that faith for their leaders’ gain rather than the gain of the people.

But, apparently, I’m the only person on the planet who bothers digging into these things and seeking this comfort in this nonsense, because the responses I’ve always gotten are “you’re crazy,” “it’s your fault you’re bullied,” “try being interested in their things,” “you don’t read enough scripture” or “you read too much scripture.”  I’d do it all myself, but that makes me feel even less like a valid human.  I have nothing to offer the world, no riches to donate the fascists into losing, no exciting or relatable stories for my family, nothing but playlists of music, game experience and kaiju/superhero stuff that someone is going to say is all infernally inspired because it isn’t about Jesus.  I’m honestly starting to think my existence is a mistake because I’ve accomplished nothing and screwed over everything that went right.  I was born in time to watch my country fall to the Nazis and be Kirk Cameron’s Whipping Boy and never see a World Series.  Yay, me.

Insecurity

I am not comfortable with Twitter anymore.  I am pretty sure my insecurity has built a wall between Tara Platt and I, so it is useless.  Sure, we believe different things, but she was helpful, unlike all the others who just aggravated my mind when I needed help.  “You’re a Christian, you need to read your Bible more.”  “Why don’t you just not go to Church, soldiers are just paid murderers.”  She was the Fallon version of Garden Street, my Dad’s family and my game-playing cousins who are raising two daughters.  I see myself as trouble, unable to deal with problems because of this damn anxiety and depression, making me second-guess decisions, scared of loss or my status quo being disrupted.  This makes me good at being an ally, I don’t want the LGBTQ+ community to experience aggressive upheaval after I experienced such by losing family members and being lectured, why would I want people who get that just by hand-holding to suffer the same?  I keep feeling I need to prove my want for Edelgard to not hurt any more was valid, mostly because so many like Dimitri or Claude or are homophobic or think she was too violent.  I firmly believe she had no choice in that world, nothing was going to change.  We are sometimes called to do something risky, difficult and with a chance of death for the good of many; the Bible has Esther, the 20th Century has Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Luther King Jr., modern times have Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile, Miley Cyrus, Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt.  If you don’t think what they do is dangerous, Dolly received death threats for writing and singing a pro-trans song and you just have to look at the cult of Trump and their Epiphany Insurrection on all the capitols to know they would publicly execute anyone they want, either LGBTQ+, protestor or even loyal cult member, to ensure the continuation of their cult.

Entertainment is getting hard.

Godzilla; King of the Monsters (2019)

Fire Emblem; Three Houses/Fire Emblem; Engage

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger

Super Paper Mario*

Red vs. Blue Season 10

Dolly Parton’s “Rockstar” album

These are all peaks in the fields of heroic kaiju movie, Fire Emblem game/storytelling, Super Sentai/Power Rangers, Mario games (*until Super Mario Bros. Wonder, though that’s due to the large playable cast) Red vs. Blue and Rock and Roll albums, by which I mean when we went back to something more ordinary and regular that followed, it was dry and flavorless by comparison.  It did its genre so well, no one else could touch it without coming across as an unfunny joke (note that Metal, Pop and Country are not Rock and Roll, this might also be temporary, but it’s hard to see someone making something this star-studded and passionate again) so they might as well have not bothered with me.  As such, my future is question marks in terms of entertainment outside of baseball, 2 albums and Godzilla Minus One.  I honestly wish there was something new I could get passionate about, I doubt there will be a new game with more Godzilla than Gigabash, or teamups of Edelgard, Annette and Lysithea or Mitsuru with Rise Kujikawa beyond my Mii fighters in Smash Bros., so it feels like it’s those things, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG and just random music here and there from here on out, which feels like a mighty river has dried to a trickle.  I suppose I deserve it for being insecure with this stupid anxiety and depression.

faith

I've had several surgeries; hernia, sinus and spinal fusion-in that last one, the morphine machine broke on the second night.  It felt like my spine was wrapped in fire.  I have an anxiety disorder and clinical depression, so it's hard to talk out loud and when things hurt, they HURT.  My Mom says I hurt worse than the people actually experiencing the pain.  My parents divorced when I was 12, shortly after I turned 13, my Dad remarried.  It wasn't my fault, but try convincing a 13-year-old that.  I felt second-fiddle to my older brother and wanted harmony in the world, I didn't like the popularity of family Guy and the Da vinci Code at the time because it disrespected my God.

In college, I saw a new disrespect that I thought might've caused the first, The Laramie Project.  Several Christian men said Matthew Shepard "got what he deserved," breaking my heart and angering me.  At the time, Samus and Zelda in the Super Smash Bros. game looked like a cute couple, they are both women.  This led to me getting violently lectured by respected people at the Church I attended at the time as they shoved Sodom, Gomorrah and Leviticus 20:13 in my face.  I stopped knowing who to trust there and left 4 years later, not before they emblazoned on my brain the idea that God punishes transgressors on Earth.

I went to a reconciling congregation and all was well for a year and a half, then Satan incarnate conquered the White House as the 45th President.  With an unholy blend of fascism, Stalinism and prejudice, he almost destroyed the United States, got us into war with North Korea, declared himself Emperor for life and publicly executed the entire Democrat Party for treason.  The archbishop Rhea claiming a man was turned into a monster "as punishment by the goddess" seemed to come straight from Trump and his pastor cronies perversion of Christianity, which was there before his election to keep the youth in line and tell them "The Democrat Party is the Church of Satan."

Of all the heinous crimes the Republicans do, this burns me up the most.  It is an excuse to refuse the Christian element of compassion due to politics or other philosophical differences by saying "they broke the rules, they got what they deserved, forget them."  I imagine Trump and Larry the Cable Guy, who only plays an idiot, but is an aggressive SOB on Twitter over Stryper and feminism, laughing and toasting champagne at the news of the death of Rachel Held Evans, an openly Christian author who criticized their patriarchal nationalist ways, at a young age, as to them, it would mean God is truly on THEIR side, opposing such puny threats and smiting them.  It makes me doubt, then, in anger, I declare this:

The Republican Party's definition of good is solely what benefits their ideal, which they are willing to sacrifice any man, woman or child to achieve.  Give them no votes, no money and don't believe their lie that they are the only Christians in America.  I have a hard time believing they're Christians, at all.

Not enough part 2

This is another follow-up.  What has been plaguing my mind since last weekend is the core of the conflict I am going through in the world, that I am not enough.

It is not enough to sign a petition calling out crooked politicians, you need to donate.

It is not enough to say the civilians of both Israel and Palestine deserve better, you need to choose a side and demand the erasure of the other like a deranged revolutionary.

It is not enough to get hope and help from non-Christians and believe that because they helped you, they will be saved because of Mark 9:38-41, your own biological family will challenge you on that, though you refuse to believe in or worship a Jesus who would condemn Tara Platt, Yuri Lowenthal, Laura Bailey, Sarah McKnight and Abby Trott

It is not enough to share the horrible things Trump is saying, you need to beat it into the fundamentalists' heads, though it is futile, these people want diversity silenced and one media, no video games, no Twitter, no thought, just obedience to their rigid interpretation of God, which has no mercy, only wrath.

All of this makes me want to sink into video games, music and sex, drown myself in pleasure, but it is fleeting and temporary.  The song, game and story ends and the issue is still there, just as strong as before, perhaps stronger.  It makes me furious, I want to enjoy life and I can't with the 2024 election and Twitter's trending topics breathing down my neck.  I'm only on the website to share sports opinions and keep tabs on the men and women mentioned above, we are all in this crazy thing called life together, best to spend it with intelligent people and goofballs to lighten the load.

I've been busy making music playlists on YouTube, in the new year, these will be playlists in Spotify and iTunes (hoping to get a new computer for Christmas).  As is typical for me, they are best of year based playlists and there may be more as time goes on.  Here are the ones made so far and the one for this year which is a work in progress until Thursday Night at 9:00 pm PST.
