Okay, there's no way to discuss my feelings on this in a simple tweet/post, so I have to express it here. Apparently, people are getting really caught up in the politics of Fire Emblem; Three Houses with Fire Emblem Warriors; Three Hopes on the way. I can understand, I get caught up in it myself. I've been an ally of the LGBTQ+ community since seeing the Laramie Project in college, which caused conflict with people in my Church back then, so I picked Black Eagles. It was therapeutic to find characters who've been through comparable experiences and help them achieve their goals.
That said, I don't hate Dimitri. It's clear (spoilers) that Edelgard didn't enjoy ending his life and that they were once as close as brother and sister. Tara Platt masterfully handles expressing the sadness in that scene, to the point that even though I have never played the Blue Lions route, I imagine Dimitri's an okay guy who just values the tradition of his family above his childhood friends. Honestly, Three Hopes will mean less if I can't have Annette on my team, her smiling face and joyful demeanor were helpful in the post-timeskip world where the house was war-weary from 5 years of fighting. Also, Tara openly admitted she'd refer to a game system as a "Play-Box" and Cherami Leigh (who plays Rhea) has said one of her favorite characters she doesn't voice is Edelgard, so if they don't take this that seriously, why should you?
The world has been through a lot of pointless violence, death and close-to-death experiences in the last six years. It doesn't need gamers making it worse, especially with open war in Europe right now. Yes, I'll choose Edelgard again, but a powerhouse sweets-lover with a Tara Platt voice who blossoms under compassion? That's a recipe for a favorite character, right there. Just, don't blow things out of proportion, it'll kill you.
