Last week brought us quite a few good new releases, Journey's new album was a good example of Classic Rock in the Modern Age and there were a few times singer Arnel Pineda sounded just like Steve Perry (in fact, given Perry's semi-recent release, he sounds more like Steve Perry than Steve Perry currently sounds). The Dead Daisies had another killer single, seemingly revving up for a new studio album and they are currently on tour, scheduled to visit The Crocodile in Seattle in September. I doubt I'll be able to make it for budgetary reasons, the Greyhound tickets for the Joan Jett/Poison/Motley Crue/Def Leppard concert and Mariners vs. Braves game are going to take a sizeable chunk out of my budget next month and I think it'll be too late come September. Pearl Jam released a "tour edition" of their Gigaton album, which featured live versions of every track from the album. It was better than the original because you got the stories behind the songs, helping you understand them better. K.Flay and poutyface released a good single, as did Blondie from their upcoming 1974-1982 box set and First to Eleven, releasing a cover of Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box." Lastly, there was an MP3 release of Elton John's first album, which was heavily influenced by the psychedelia of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." It was a nice curiosity on how his career started.
This week features several exciting-sounding releases. Pop star Lizzo is releasing her new album, the singles indicate this will be a fun one. Australian rock guitarist/singer Orianthi is releasing a live album which will feature several songs off her 2020 album "O," which I have and enjoy, Orianthi has also collaborated with a lot of people in the music business, like Alice Cooper, Richie Sambora, Sammy Hagar, Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood and follows Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus on Twitter. The band Sick n Beautiful is releasing an album, it features a woman who dresses like a Power Rangers villain and the band claims to be from space. I am curious how the album will sound. Pop star Sabrina Carpenter is also releasing an album, she has a nice voice and has made good music before. Lastly, GameChops is releasing an album called "Smash and Chill," featuring relaxing versions of music in the Super Smash Bros. series of games, both from other games and Smash Bros. itself.
I am enjoying answering musical opinions from three accounts on Twitter and I am distancing myself from most everything else. This relaxes me and keeps me from being hostile. I am wondering if I should keep my account to do that or shut it down and reconnect with everyone on Facebook. I will decide when I finish Three Hopes, which should be around the start of August at the rate I'm going.
