Music Update 8/25/2022 and 8/26/2022 releases

Well, another Thursday has come and it’s time for musical updates.  Last week had great albums from Big Lugg and Yuri Lowenthal with Tara Platt and Cissy Jones contributing the best tracks and a great hard rock album from Demi Lovato that reminded me of the work of Lzzy Hale and Halestorm.  Sammy Hagar and the Circle released a good single, as did a new supergroup called Killer Kings, though the credit for that belongs to Joel Hoekstra of Whitesnake, who played the guitar solo.  Allison Russell also teamed up with Brandi Carlile for a good single, and an old live version of Creedence’s “Fortunate Son” was also released.

Today, August 25th, is also a special day for me in music.  It is Billy Ray Cyrus, Rob Halford (lead singer of Judas Priest) and Vivian Campbell’s (former Dio, current Def Leppard and Last in Line guitarist) birthday all at once.  All three have contributed heavily to my favorite music since I began listening to it more seriously, creating many songs and albums I’d rather not live without.  So, Happy Birthday, you three and enjoy your amazing lives.

Another thing of note is I mentioned Tara Platt has three MP3s, if you’ve been paying attention, she has two songs on the album last week.  That’s because almost a decade ago, she sang a song for the web series “Shelf Life” she made with Yuri Lowenthal and Travis Willingham (yes, THAT Travis Willingham).  It’s called “Famous in my Heart” and it’s a cutesy pop song sung in her Elizabeth voice from Persona.  She raps on the album last week in her Temari/Mitsuru/Edelgard voice (since it’s supposed to be from Temari’s perspective), but having spent so much time with Edelgard, I told her it was a little strange to me to hear that voice rap because Edelgard is a character who you assume listens to arias and choral music, but other than that, it was great work.  She liked and retweeted.

This week we have a boxset of archives from Blondie, a live recording from 1974 by the Charlie Daniels Band and a Deluxe Edition of the soundtrack to “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!”  There were also singles earlier this week from Larkin Poe, Rina Sawayama and Tegan and Sara for their upcoming albums, Rina’s releases September 16th, Tegan and Sara’s drops October 21st and Larkin Poe’s is scheduled to be released on Veteran’s Day.
