What's Going On and Music Releases for 8/19/2022

It’s Thursday once again, and though this isn’t Critical Role and attracts nowhere near the amount of views, I hope you who do find this enjoy it nonetheless.  Last week’s favorite music starts with a single by Grace McKagan and the Eagles of Death Metal called “K-Town,” released on the eve of the 6th anniversary of me seeing her live in concert with her band at the time, The Pink Slips, opening for her Dad, Duff McKagan’s band, Guns N Roses.  Generation Radio had a good album I feel my sister-in-law might be into due to the country influence from the Rascal Flatts members.  They also recorded “I Hope You Find It,” originally recorded by Miley Cyrus for The Last Song soundtrack in 2010.  There was a good single from an upcoming Blondie boxset, Elvis’ estate released a rehearsal take of “Burning Love” from an upcoming deluxe live album, and Derek Shirinian and Rick Wakeman’s “Synthesizer Classics” were also good, Shirinian’s, being a rendition of “Tubular Bells,” could see use in a couple of months.  Lastly, the Yardbirds compilation has been great and it has been amazing to hear the roots of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.

I saw Thor; Love and Thunder yesterday and it may have dethroned Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as my favorite Marvel film.  Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth were great and it was nice to see Chris Pratt, Mantis and the other Guardians of the Galaxy in it, it also had a kick-butt assortment of licensed Guns N Roses songs, as well as “Rainbow in the Dark” by Dio.  I was air-guitarring hard in my seat, playing a whole air band for the Dio song, something I’ve done more often as Black Sabbath, Joan Jett, Heart and Judas Priest get their music into movies I watch.  Gorr was also a creepy antagonist, but his origin reminded me of how we can be when our faith wavers.  When my dad had his pulmonary embolism, my favorite wrestler got Leukemia, I lost my uncle and Rachel Held Evans died less than six months later, my belief in God didn’t go away, scripture says “rain falls on the righteous and unrighteous,” but I could only imagine political adversaries in the Christian faith saying “these wouldn’t happen if you weren’t an LGBTQ+ ally” or breaking out the good champagne, toasting it as a success and saying truly God was on their side.  If God is truly like that, someone who murders to get your attention, to get you to change, I want no part, which is why it bothers me when someone suggests that or does actions to back up a belief like that.  You’re not healing the wounded and depressed, you’re just telling them they don’t belong in Church.

In terms of things in my personal life, we had a minor heat wave earlier this week, which got me agitated.  Between the blatant criminal activity of Donald Trump, the obvious (to me) lies of Johnny Depp to punish his ex-wife and send her to a hellish existence where she cannot be honest and studios will likely not hire her and she could face prison time and having her one-year-old daughter stripped from her and raised by a stranger, me revisiting DeviantArt for no logical reason and that only serves to confirm while they are anime and video game fans, there is a high degree of fascism and disdain for Tara Platt, her character Edelgard, Miley Cyrus, same-gender relationships outside of a “can I watch” capacity and feminism in general.  They called the MCU the “MSheU” I’m guessing because Captain Marvel, Mighty Thor and She-Hulk have now entered the franchise.  Honestly, Marvel has some catching up to do since Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Mera, Katana, Huntress and the ladies of Shazam were introduced in short order in the DCEU, and it is good to see superpowered women on the big screen.  I wish I could perma-block the website from my computer, as dealing with Trumpism in real life is hard enough and the whole thing makes me paranoid about Twitter, especially when some small criticisms or mocks do appear, reminding of how DeviantArt failed me so aggressively, and I like being in contact with Tara Platt, Abby Trott, Miley Cyrus, classic rock/metal polls and LGBTQ+ fan artists too much to want to quit permanently.

I also have to be honest; I don’t like Taylor Swift anymore.  She used to be a unique country-pop singer, now she just blends in with the pop crowd.  I couldn’t pick her out from a session on the Top 40 station a few years back, she no longer has a voice or sound that sticks out like Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande or Bebe Rexha.  Despite this, she’s more popular than ever and it feels sometimes like she’s worshipped as a god.  I honestly can’t stand this and, as such, I do not like her or her music much anymore.  I’m sorry, but I had to say it.

On the plus side, the Mariners are doing Fantastic in the standings, holding onto a Wild Card spot so Far with a powerful lineup and a rotation that seems to be getting better.  Maybe this will be the year we break back into the playoffs?  We can only hope and speculate for now, but it makes me extremely excited at the thought of seeing them play the equally-talented Braves next month.  That could potentially be our 2022 World Series and will definitely be a clash of baseball titans, with Julio Rodriguez, Ty France, Mitch Haniger and Carlos Santana for the Mariners and Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Michael Harris II and Ronald Acuna Jr. for the Braves.  I’m glad I bought the ticket.

This week, Demi Lovato releases her new album, which will have more of a Hard Rock sound than her previous albums.  It promises to be a potent emotional release, but more aggressive this time than most of her albums.  Pat Travers releases his new album as well, dealing with personal issues and continuing his blues-rock legacy.  Lastly comes Fire Style, an album from Big Lugg and Yuri Lowenthal, yes, the voice actor.  It is a Naruto-themed rap album that will include several voice actors from the show.  Yuri Lowenthal’s wife, Tara Platt, gets two tracks, “Fans” and “Dub Love,” and Neil Kaplan, who played Optimus Prime in Transformers; Robots in Disguise (2001, Saban) and Shurimon in Digimon Season 2, also gets a song.
