The Pearl Jam releases of "Jingle Bells" and "Someday at Christmas" were great last week and there were some good tracks on The Who's album. This week, there are three releases I can guarantee will be released tonight at 9:00, or at least tomorrow morning, in MP3 form that I'm looking forward to.
Warren Haynes Presents The Benefit Concert, Vol 16: Warren Haynes was a guitarist and singer in the Allman Brothers Band during their comeback in the late 80s, and would form the spinoff group Gov't Mule with bassist Allen Woody and drummer Matt Abts. The three would perform a variety of music, from their own tracks to covers of "Helter Skelter" by The Beatles, "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath, "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, "All Apologies" by Nirvana, "Power Of Soul" by Jimi Hendrix, "Is It My Body" by Alice Cooper and "Fell On Black Days" by Soundgarden. Allen Woody died in the early 2000s, and I first heard of Gov't Mule due to him providing bass for the Brother Clyde (Billy Ray Cyrus) cover of "I Walk The Line." Gov't Mule and Warren Haynes perform excellent Southern Rock, Blues and Hard Rock and a few artists I'm not familiar with also appear on this album.
Stone Sour-Hello You Bastards; Live in Reno: I apologize for the title's use of foul language, but that is the title. Stone Sour's lead singer is also the lead singer for Slipknot and this is his more normal heavy metal band. Their song "Song #3," about needing redemption from past sins is a favorite of mine, and they also once toured with BabyMetal and Skillet, two of my favorite Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands.
Joe Brown-All I Want For Christmas Is Peace: I checked out some of Joe Brown's music last night, he is a British Ukulele player who has covered ELO, The Who and The Beatles, namely, Ukulele advocate George Harrison's "Here Comes The Sun." This isn't a full album, just a single for 99 cents, but I love the message of the title. When asked to write down what I really wanted this Christmas, one of the four things I wrote was "World Peace." These days, I'd even settle for National Peace.
