Unless something changes, this will be my last post like this until January 9th. I did find MP3s on Spotify of albums scheduled to be released as CDs next month, namely a new Deep Purple live album and an album from a band called Held Hostage with experienced metal vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens on lead vocals. This was actually the third album Tim "Ripper" Owens released this year, the others being the first releases of Spirits of Fire and The Three Tremors. An interesting thing about him is that he started as the lead singer of a Judas Priest tribute band, then was hired by Judas Priest to be their lead singer for a couple albums, this story being the basis for the film "Rock Star" with Mark Wahlberg, Jennifer Aniston, Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham and Jeff Pilson. The Held Hostage album is so far a good callback to the days of Hair Metal and when Rock was about Partying, while the Deep Purple album was fun, but mostly seemed to cover old ground from a different live album, namely, their performance at Wacken.
Anyway, there's only one release this week that I know of I'm looking forward to, and it might only be available tomorrow morning.
John Williams-Star Wars; The Rise of Skywalker Soundtrack: John Williams is probably the best composer for American film ever, standing out in a league all his own. He has made scores for many films, making the famous "Jaws" theme, the Darth Vader theme, also known as The Imperial March, and many other famous motifs that are instantly recognizable. It'll probably be best to watch the film before deciding which tracks are your favorites, mine have always been the ones tied to an important/memorable scene that to me, defined the movie, like "Duel of the Fates," "Battle of the Heroes," "The Birth of the Twins and Padme's Destiny," "The Battle of Yavin," "The Asteroid Belt" and "The Clash of Lightsabers."
To avoid making this post too short, I actually sat down this week and listened to my best of 2019 playlist as it was and decided to trim it to make it an easier listening experience, instead of a music mini-series/marathon. While it's still huge, it's a lot smaller, and feels much easier to manage and more fun, as well, as it has more memorable songs from this year rather than songs I liked at the initial point of release then mostly forgot about. While they're still good music, I didn't focus on them enough to make them stand out this year. Without further ado, here's the revised list.
