Last week’s album by Halestorm was an amazing tour de force of Hard Rock, with “Wicked Ways,” “Bombshell” and “Raise Your Horns” becoming among the best songs the band has ever done. There was also a great cover of Metallica’s “Fuel” by mostly cover band First to Eleven, which has done covers of Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. They’re the kind of band I wish I could lead sing in and hopefully may someday.
This week sees several releases I’m interested in, starting with Skills, a Frontiers Records supergroup made up of Brad Gillis from Night Ranger, Billy Sheehan of Sons of Apollo, Winery Dogs and Dream Theatre and a new lead singer from Brazil. They have already made a great love ballad called “Just When I Needed You,” that sounds very 80s. The Graham Bonnet Band is releasing their first studio album since 2018, which had one of my favorites of that year, the live version of “Starcarr Lane” that closes the album, the song from Bonnet’s 80s band Alcatrazz. Latin American pop star Becky G is releasing a full-length album, as is country rapper Savannah Dexter. Noah Cyrus is releasing the second single off her first full-length album, due out in July, and Anthony Ramos teased a release on Twitter.
In other music news, Whitesnake announced their final tour’s US Dates as a supporting act for German Metal act the Scorpions. They will play at the Tacoma Dome on October 15th, which, if I am able to go, would be the third concert I’ve seen on that day after Paramore in 2013 and The Dead Daisies in 2021. I have asked for a ticket for my birthday, and if that falls through, I can attempt to buy one in June. Hopefully, I’ll be able to go, Whitesnake was amazing live when I last saw them in 2015 and I bet they will be so again.
Sammy Hagar's tour is coming to Pain in the Grass in Auburn, as well, but since I have less-reliable public transportation to Auburn, as well as it coming right in between two trips to Seattle (4 band concert on 8/31 and Mariners vs. Braves 9/9), I'm going to skip it and hope this isn't his last tour.
