Music Update 5/6/2022

I apologize for my first post of Tuesday, I am worried this means women will have to birth and raise their rapists’ babies, which is unethical and effectively says the woman is at fault for being raped.  I know many women in real life and social media and they dress down simply because they believe their bodies are beautiful.  It just comes across as an attack on my friends and loved ones, and hopefully, we can make a better future for them.  It also suggests a slippery slope where they abolish LGBTQ+ marriage, annulling many relationships in my Church and in my life, which is not fair to them and makes me feel weak, helpless, scared and angry.

So, let’s try to focus on one of the constant sources of joy.  Last week saw six bonus tracks to Miley Cyrus’ “Attention; Live” album.  I was touched to hear “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart,” I bought it from Amazon on the day he died before he was dead, and it’s morose message of heartbreak and pain was actually comforting and healing afterwards, especially since my Dad also almost died and my favorite pro wrestler was diagnosed with Leukemia.  He’s now in remission and still wrestles, he is, in fact, currently the WWE Heavyweight Champion and the WWE Universal Champion.  She also dedicated it to Ukraine, since the music video was filmed in Kyiv.

The Dead Daisies released a live version of them performing Deep Purple’s “Burn,” which lead singer/bassist Glenn Hughes was a part of.  It is an amazing rock song with a powerhouse riff and sounds just as good here as on the albums by Deep Purple and Whitesnake.  Ann Wilson, the lead singer of Heart, released a solo album featuring some originals and some covers, such as a duet with Vince Gill on Queen’s “Love of my Life,” Kenny Wayne Shephard on guitar on “Bridge of Sighs” and original songs with Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes, “Gladiator” and “Angel’s Blues.”  Switchfoot released a new version of "Dare You To Move" with the second verse sung by a Ukrainian band's lead singer.  And on Sunday night, Aly and AJ surprised the world with a new version of their old Disney Channel song “Like Whoa.”  It still holds up after 15 years.  Also, if I didn't mention it, check out No Resolve's version of "Surface Pressure" from Encanto.  It really shows Lin-Manuel Miranda works in all genres and lends support to Tara Platt claiming that was the best song of the movie.

This week, we have a new album by woman-led Metal Band Halestorm, who just finished a tour with Evanescence.  They will return to the road after its release with different supporting acts.  A Greatest Hits Whitesnake album may be hitting Spotify, at the very least it’s on CD on Amazon.  Its timing is fitting, as the band is embarking on a Farewell Tour, no US dates announced yet, but I will try to stay on top of them.  Also, David Coverdale says he plans to continue recording and releasing music after the tour.  Lastly, powerhouse singer Jeff Scott Soto is releasing his new album, which will showcase his killer vocals among a hard rock/heavy metal band.
