Thoughts on 7/10/2023

What’s been going well: The Mariners are winning, baseball in general is still exciting (looking forward to seeing the M’s play the Blue Jays (Bo Bichette, Whit Merrifield) and Padres (Juan Soto, Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts) this summer), getting DVDs of Ultraman and Evangelion, getting a new game with Abby Trott and Xanthe Huynh in it (Trails of Reverie), a new anime with Abby Trott and Laura Post is coming (Zom100), there’s a new Godzilla film coming from Toho this November, Gigabash with Godzilla, Gigan, Kiryu and Destroyah as DLC is coming to the Switch this August and Cassette Beasts with Tara Platt, Yuri Lowenthal, Allegra Clark and Aleks Le is available on Switch, I plan to buy both, Evangelion 3.0 and Final Fantasy IV in August.

August entertainment purchase priorities; 50 MP3s (will probably include Mammoth WVH and Idina Menzel), Gigabash with Godzilla DLC, Cassette Beasts, Evangelion 3.0 and Final Fantasy IV (tier 1), San Jose Sharks @ Seattle Kraken ticket (will likely be over $200), tickets to a concert (top candidates are Noah Cyrus, Hell’s Belles, Guns N Roses and Aerosmith, will depend on cost, more may be announced)

Because Mom’s developed hearing troubles, I think I need to cut off going to concerts when I’m 50.  By then, most of the acts I like will be dead anyway, and the women will need to reinvent themselves or lose significance because they won’t be as pretty to do their dance moves anymore.  They could still do it in their 40s, but tabloids will put it all over the grocery store checkout line and make them look like sluts and fools.  I can’t deal with the criticism.

Concert Bucket List: Ariana Grande, Bebe Rexha, Whitesnake farewell tour, Bon Jovi, Miley Cyrus (again), Sammy Hagar (again), Black Country Communion, a Soundgarden tribute, Judas Priest (again), Foo Fighters, Zepparella (again), Hell’s Belles (again), BabyMetal (again), Paramore (again), Trans-Siberian Orchestra on the East Coast with Joel Hoekstra

I’m getting old.

Streamily and Twitter have destroyed my need to go to conventions.  I have autographs from Tara Platt, Abby Trott and Laura Post of their Fire Emblem characters, why do I need to go to Emerald City ComiCon?  They’ve all wished me Happy Birthday.  I honestly get a little tired of praising them and those characters, it feels stalker-ish.  I honestly want to turn my focus elsewhere, even in the world of JRPG characters, but their characters in general are so refreshing, healing and comforting, the only other one like them is Rise Kujikawa played by Laura Bailey, and I can see her almost every Thursday night in Critical Role, so there’s little need to go crazy over her.  Tara, Abby and Laura Post are much less in the public eye than Laura Bailey, so I worry about their mental health with the strain of fame and people despising comfort to LGBTQ+ people, their allies and women, which their characters provide often.

It gets political, so many people on the right wing don’t understand those people and punish them because they want the world to be simpler and more basic than it is, trying to force it to be that way.  It won’t work, all they’ll do is show how desperate, angry and full of hate and bloodlust they are.  Their words are physically painful to me, I wince hearing right-wing people scream against LGBTQ+ people, claiming they are “redefining marriage” and “assaulting religious freedom.”  I only worry Christianity is going to be outlawed because they present it as incompatible with freedom of expression and freedom of speech, making it an enemy of this country and everyone else who is in it who disagrees with you.  This was the basis for the conflict in Three Houses, and several people in that game who worshipped the goddess Sothis agreed it did not need to be this way.  It does not need to be combative.  We simply make room for the others, as we have for centuries.  If we cannot do that, we do not believe in America or Democracy and need to establish our own country which has a militaristic theocracy.
