Another week gone by, so here comes
another blog post. Carrie Underwood had
the best album last week and Natalie Grant had some great Praise music and some
good quiet reflective pieces. Also, The
Dead Daisies released their newest single, Bustle and Flow, and finally
revealed the release of their first studio album with Glenn Hughes singing,
January 22nd, 2021. Brandi
Carlile and Brandy Clark also teamed up for a new single about personal demons
people deal with and that the Devil is behind these mental tormentors. It was a great song and I hope we hear more
soon.
This week looks to be quite busy
with several noteworthy albums seeing release.
Bon Jovi-2020: The 80s rockers release their new album with
powerful songs like “American Reckoning” and “Unbroken,” about the Black Lives
Matter movement and a soldier suffering after returning from War in the Middle
East, yet proud he fought nonetheless.
This looks to be a powerful, stirring album and as I said before, they
seem to be saying what I’m thinking in those two songs.
Dolly Parton-A Holly Dolly Christmas: Dolly Parton releases
a new Christmas album with guest appearances by Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus,
Michael Bublé and Willie Nelson as well.
The appearances of the Cyrus family reminds me of a tweet years back
when Miley’s older sister Brandi suggested there be a Cyrus Family Christmas
Album, so this is the closest we’ll get to it until they actually make it.
Robert Plant-Digging Deep: Subterranea; Led Zeppelin’s lead
singer returns with a compilation album and possibly some new music. If you’re expecting something like Zeppelin,
you’ll probably be disappointed, but Robert Plant’s current folksy music is
well-made and says you don’t need to be an aggressive powerhouse to have
fun. His duet album with Allison Krauss
also won a Grammy back in the 2000s and this album features the powerful old
song, “Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down.”
Roger Waters-Us + Them: The Former Pink Floyd bassist has a
new live album with classic songs like “Comfortably Numb,” “Another Brick In
The Wall Part 2,” “One Of These Days” and “Money” performed. He helped make these songs great and while I
doubt he and David Gilmour will reunite, they both play and sing good music.
Queen and Adam Lambert-Live Around the World: Another
Classic Rock live album, this time featuring Brian May and Roger Taylor backing
Adam Lambert and performing classic songs like “Who Wants To Live Forever,”
“Fat Bottomed Girls,” “Under Pressure,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “The Show Must
Go On.” Adam Lambert may not be Freddie
Mercury, but he is a darn good singer and I like to hear the band continue to
perform these songs in these days.
Miley Cyrus-Heart of Glass (Live):
The Pop Superstar released a new single earlier this week, a cover of Blondie’s
classic. She recently stated Debbie
Harry was one of her inspirations lately and both appeared in the Joan Jett
Documentary, “Bad Reputation,” two years ago.
She also covered Hall and Oates’ classic “Maneater” on TV in the last
month, which means a lot to me since, like her Elton John covers, that’s one of
my Dad’s favorite songs.
I made some playoff predictions on
MLB.com before the postseason started.
I’m only 1/3 right with the American League, predicting the Rays would
beat the Blue Jays, though I also predicted the Twins to go to the World Series
and that’s not happening. I did predict
the Braves and Dodgers to beat their opponents and they won yesterday, so we’ll
see how that progresses, and I also predicted the White Sox to beat the A’s, so
we’ll see how that game plays out today.
I ultimately predicted the Braves to win it all.
