Here are my predictions of how Adam Wingard is going to ruin the Monsterverse and turn it into a Kong lovefest:
Godzilla x Kong plot;
Unusual seismic activity occurs in the Hollow Earth. MONARCH discovers that an ancient alien Titan, AstroGodzilla, who absorbed Godzilla genetics upon arriving on Earth, has awakened. He also has a significant portion of the Kong race trapped in another dimension inside his wing-like protrusions on his back. Kong battles him, but loses and AstroGodzilla makes for the surface. He obliterates Shanghai and turns the ruins to ice, then heads to Kyushu. Godzilla attacks, only to be easily overpowered and significantly wounded. Kong shows up and the two kill AstroGodzilla and free the Kongs, there is now one per country. Outraged that his ancient nemesis now runs the planet, Godzilla attacks Kong, only to be overpowered easily again, a jagged scar left on his chest and stomach. Enraged, he destroys Fukuoka before returning to the sea.
Kong; the TRUE King plot;
After defeating AstroGodzilla and restoring the Kong empire, the Kongs are welcomed into the UN. Jealous that the Kongs now defend humanity, Godzilla and Mothra awaken Bagan to attack the Kong Empire. Behemoth, Scylla and Kong fight the three in a climatic duel in Los Angeles that destroys the city and incinerates Mothra. Behemoth impales Bagan, enabling Kong to snap his neck. Godzilla, now with his throne lost with no respect, challenges the three to preserve his title. The three issue a savage beatdown on the once King of the Monsters, Kong snapping Godzilla’s jaw and spine, tossing his mangled corpse into the ocean, where it splits in half, never to be seen again. Now man’s sole, rightful protector, Kong beats his chest triumphantly as Behemoth and Scylla bow in respect.
Does anyone else feel like this? That you can write better sagas, crossovers and stories involving your favorite entertainment franchises that will make you happier than whatever is actually going to be released and become canon? And as such, you no longer feel like you need the film industry or television or video games because you can make your own stories with those characters that make you happier than whatever they are going to actually make. I could write plot summaries/treatments for every cinematic universe I ever cared for and headcanons for every video game I play and it would likely make me happier than spending money on the industries and watch them gut my favorite characters in the pursuit of profits. Not much is really living up to the hype outside of music.
Speaking of, this week Brandi Carlile released a great rendition of “Home” from the musical “The Wiz.” Demi Lovato has a rock rendition of “Cool for the Summer” I need to check out and coming up tonight is the debut album by Elegant Weapons, who feature Richie Faulkner (Judas Priest) on guitar and Ronnie Romero (Lords of Black, Rainbow, Michael Schenker, solo career) on vocals. Their single “Do or Die” has already gotten 10 plays in my iTunes, so this should be good.
I feel I need to say something about the passing of Tina Turner yesterday. I admit, I didn’t have much of her music, just her cover of “Come Together” which caught my attention by being on the Cruella soundtrack, but it was a well-down rendition. I also have a version of “Nutbush City Limits” by Inglorious from their Heroine album, where they also covered Miley Cyrus, Evanescence, Joan Jett, Whitney Houston and Halestorm. Bob Seger also covered “Nutbush City Limits” back when it was new. Tina Turner was one of a kind, strong, enduring and with an energy to music that will continue to exist though she’s gone. We will miss her being the one who brings that energy.
