Well, it’s been an interesting week. I’ve struggled with feeling ignored online a
lot, as well as the general negativity of the Internet. I think, though, one of my biggest problems
is people on the Internet tend to get upset and angry over things I find trivial
or unimportant and say nothing of important issues or take the opposite stance
I would take, i.e., they support Trump or anarchy and definitely heteronormativity
and homophobia whereas I’m opposed to these things. I’ve seen hate art of LGBTQ+ characters Yang,
Blake and Edelgard, even art where they are murdered remorselessly, or married
to some man that probably represents the artist so as to suggest conquering
what society deemed unconquerable. I
find this behavior unacceptable and offensive to the highest degree, comparable
to Minstrel shows and Blackface, possibly even worse when it involves death.
Yet, despite this, there are good
parts to the world wide web. I started
my Twitter back up and started following some singers and voice actresses whose
work I have admired, such as Carrie Underwood, Brandi Carlile, Tara Platt (VA
for Mitsuru and Elizabeth in the Persona series, Kali Belladonna in RWBY,
Temari in Naruto, Miriel in Fire Emblem; Awakening and Edelgard in Fire Emblem;
Three Houses and Fire Emblem; Heroes), Cherami Leigh (VA for Lucy Heartfilia in
Fairy Tail, Makoto in Persona 5 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (and other
Persona 5-related media, such as the upcoming Dynasty Warriors-influenced game),
Ilia in RWBY, Rhea in Fire Emblem; Three Houses and Fire Emblem; Heroes and Cecilia
in Fire Emblem; Heroes), as well as our soon-to-be leaders Joe Biden and Kamala
Harris. These people have given me hope
with their compassion for human life, concern about COVID-19 and tireless work
to make the world better in their own way.
Tara Platt in particular made me smile twice this past week by posting
the following:
-A Christmas Tree with a plush of Dimitri (a Dimi-tree) on
it someone sent in that she suggested should’ve been half a tree, a
Demi-tree.
-A gif of Timeskip Dimitri, Edelgard
and Claude showing off their dance moves.
And much like years past, Joel
Hoekstra, Glenn Hughes, Gal Gadot, Billy Ray Cyrus, Roman Reigns and Bayley can
still bring a smile to my face. So don’t
be afraid to revisit things that became too hard during the last four years,
times are changing and there still are good people out there.
