Happy Maundy Thursday and Holy Week to those who celebrate it! I’d like to start off by saying every release I was looking forward to last week was amazing. Carrie Underwood delivered great Hymns, Smith/Kotzen had some great 70s/80s style hard rock, there was a great soundtrack to Godzilla vs. Kong (which I’ve read the plot summary of and I am super-excited to see when I can, though it doesn’t seem as awesome as Godzilla; King of the Monsters) and Evanescence turned in a great hard rock album. As some bonuses, there was a great single by Anthony Ramos, a great single by Caleb Johnson featuring Jason Bonham on drums and a single from the album I’m looking forward to this week.
The album I’m looking forward to this week has been coming for three years and is an arduous journey through addiction and rehab as sung by its survivor.
Demi Lovato-Dancing with the Devil…The Art of Starting Over: A mammoth 19-track album that details Demi’s slip out of sobriety with an overdose in 2018 and her long recovery, with gut-wrenching moments such as her little sister singing to her at her bedside and she couldn’t see her. The painful “Anyone,” in which Demi is crying out to be heard, leads off the album, which honestly sometimes described me even before the isolation brought about by the pandemic, that feeling of lacking genuine connections, even with your family, because you don’t trust them to understand your darker parts, or when you find someone who understands your darker parts, they don’t understand other parts of you. There are also collaborations with Ariana Grande and Noah Cyrus on the album, which is nice to hear, I think those duets will sound good. I’m rooting that Demi Lovato can conquer her demons and that I can conquer mine.
I also found out there will be a RWBY game for the Switch in Mid-May and I plan to get that, it will feature Team RWBY in all their outfits throughout the series, including their prom dresses and pajamas, as well as supporting characters Team JNPR fighting enhanced Grimm in cooperative gameplay, though you can also play by yourself and mix and match the teams to your own liking. This has helped me with some of the depression and fears about the story arcs in the series proper.
