In celebration of the birthday of Joana Rosa, a Portuguese Lesbian Artist who draws Edelgard and Byleth fanart on DeviantArt and Twitter, I wrote this fan fiction. First, though, some reference screenshots of the characters who appear in it.
Edelgard and Byleth
Joker and Makoto
At a Big Bang Burger installed not far from the Smash Arena, a different
Double Date than the typical one was going on.  On one side of the
table sat Byleth with her wife Edelgard in her casual waistcoat and
ponytail, while on the other side sat the Persona user known to both as
Joker in his casual, bespectacled look, with his girlfriend, Makoto
Niijima in her regular outfit.  “It was nice of you two to join us for
our date.” Commented Makoto.
“You seem like a very passionate
individual, Miss Niijima.  I’d like to get to know you better.” Replied
Edelgard.  Byleth slurped her large soda as Edelgard looked confused at
her cup.
“Mako-chan is very responsible.” Stated Joker.  “She
does the driving in our camper most of the time and is great at combat.
She uses punches mostly and is equipped with a Persona of Pope Joan.”
“Hope that’s a kinder Pope than the Archbishop that ended up being a
dragon we had to fight.” Replied Edelgard, still confused by her soda
cup.  “Byleth, can you help me?  I have no idea how to use this cup.”
“You suck on the straw.” Replied Byleth with a giggle.  Edelgard proceeded to do so.
 “What’s with her?” asked Makoto.
“Pay it no mind, we’re from the Fire Emblem universe.” Replied Byleth.
“Our technology hasn’t advanced to invent thin polystyrene tubes.  We
rarely use gunpowder, either, we use magic, instead.”
“So, you throw fireballs and ice at opponents?” asked Joker.
“Correct.” Said Edelgard.  “This is a very sweet beverage, and well-chilled, too.”
“Can we go back a few sentences, I’m a little curious.  What was with the Archbishop Dragon you mentioned?” asked Makoto.
“She was the daughter of a goddess named Sothis who ran the societies
on our continent of Fodlan for 1,200 years after murdering her mother.”
Replied Edelgard.  “She created a society where a stone called a crest,
responsible for your affinity to use magic, was how leadership was
determined.  Naturally, someone decided, perhaps a second crest would
increase your leadership potential and ran continent-wide experiments.
I…my siblings and I…” she stopped, frowning.
 “I don’t think you
should press, but if you must know, that’s why she’s an only child.”
Said Byleth, rubbing Edelgard’s shoulder.  She hugged her and kissed her
cheek, singing “You Are My Sunshine” to her softly.  Makoto gasped,
realizing what the woman sitting in the booth across from her had been
through.
“I’m so sorry.” She said, holding Edelgard’s hand
gently.  “I-I know what it’s like to lose family, even close family.”
Edelgard looked at Makoto’s soft expression, clearly disturbed by this
news and willing to give her compassion in response.  She gave a soft
smile in response.
 “I won’t ask you to explain.  Makoto…even
though this is our first meeting, your kindness means quite a lot to
me.” She replied.  Makoto smiled, retreating her hand, putting the
French Fries between the two of them.
“Here, let’s share the fries.  It’s the least I can do.” She said, smiling kindly.
“Thank you.” Replied Edelgard.  She offered her cup as a toast to Makoto.  “To Justice.” She said.
“To Justice.” Agreed Makoto, the two cups touching in midair, the ice
heard sloshing within.  Byleth smiled at the sight as the two women
drank their sodas and ate their fries.
“I think this has been a good double-date, Joker.” Smiled Byleth.
“I agree, though it seems your wife and my girlfriend have more to
discuss than we do.” Replied Joker.  Byleth chuckled at that, Joker
smiling in response.
“Sometimes, I guess that’s how it goes.” Stated Byleth with a smile.
“Too true.” Agreed Joker.  “Too true.”
The End
