Thoughts on Nintendo Direct games 9/13/2022

There are lots of great stuff, Fire Emblem; Engage, Bayonetta 3, Resident Evil, Splatoon 3 and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe.  Let me go over each one and why I’d want them, yet also what’s holding me back:

Fire Emblem; Engage:

You summon Heroes from previous games to assist you in combat, it’s the first to have default heroes since Awakening and like all entries in this series, there’s a colorful cast of characters to get to know and help grow together.

Why do I want it?

There’s a lot of mystery into this game, like how does the ring summoning work, what does this mean for Askr, who are all the heroes involved and I also wonder if both Marth and Edelgard will be in this game, so Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt can be in a Fire Emblem game that’s more fleshed out than Heroes and maybe have dialogue together.

What’s holding me back?

I will admit it, Edelgard is such a therapy character for me that I don’t want to do this game if she’s not in it.  And if she’s DLC, there’s no guarantee I’ll have enough space on my Switch for her.  Also, I don’t know when I’ll know the answers to that.

Bayonetta 3:

Bayonetta, Jeanne and (some other guy) are back, this time fighting man-made monsters in present day.  Acrobatic tricks and gunplay are the name of the game as they battle things that look like they came from Pacific Rim or some other Kaiju movie.

Why do I want it:

You fight kaiju-like monsters spawned of man’s folly.  Bayonetta was originally a turn-off for me because she killed angels, but this idea is pretty much every great Sci-fi movie I’d seen and I’d love to play it.

What’s holding me back:

I don’t know if I’ll need 1 and 2 to understand 3, and I don’t want to get them just to understand 3 because they’re expensive and I don’t want to play a game where you kill angels.

Resident Evil:

Various games in Capcom’s Survival-Horror series involving zombies, vampires, parasites and, in one game, Jill.  Try to find weapons and herbs to help you survive the hordes of monsters.  Good luck on your mission, and try to come back in one piece.

Why do I want it:

I love Jill.  Part of me also wants to interact with Lady Dimitrescu.

What’s Holding me Back:

They’re Cloud Games and I don’t know how that works.  Do I need storage or not?  I have limited storage on my Switch and these games will over-fill it.

Splatoon 3:

The inklings and octolings are back in the color-based game of turf control.  New hosts Deep Cut introduce 3-way splatfests every weekend and there are so many customizable options it’ll blow your mind.  DLC is also coming.

Why do I want it:

The customization looks fun, I like Deep Cut’s Shiver and there’s a story mode with Callie and Marie.  It honestly looks like a fun game I’d like to play at least a little.

What’s Holding Me Back:

It also seems like it’d be a huge time sink, with constant online play just to collect stuff, like it’d be more commitment than game and Overwatch did that and I stopped playing for that reason.  I also likely don’t have room for the DLC.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe:

Kirby’s back in this remake of a classic Wii game where he helps the totally not evil Magalor repair his spaceship!  Bandanna Waddle Dee, Meta-Knight and King Dedede help out!

Why do I want it:

The early parts of Kirby games are so relaxing, it’s pretty much therapeutic.  I have fond memories of the original and this looks enhanced, so I want to see what they added.

What’s Holding Me Back:

I have seen a Let’s Play of the original, so I know how the story goes, where everything is, who the bosses are and really, everything except the deluxe bonus content that would be added to this version of the game.  That wouldn’t be worth the $65 I or someone else would have to pay for it, especially since I still have the original and my Wii.
