Last week was a fairly good week for
me for music releases, Sammy Hagar’s new album was a fun experience with some
great rock and roll, I especially loved the versions of “Right Now,” “Whole
Lotta Rosie,” “Three Little Birds,” “Good Enough,” “Don’t Tell Me What Love Can
Do” and “Heroes.” Barry Gibb had great
duets with Brandi Carlile and Olivia Newton-John and The Pretty Reckless released
a Metal anthem called "And So It Goes" with Tom Morello providing the guitar solo (though you'd think it was called "The World Doesn't Belong To You (It Belongs To Me)") which was sort of a new version of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2," only more modern. Tom Morello also teamed up with his friend Serj Tankian for a version of “Natural’s not in it,” and
Serj Tankian also covered “Starman” by David Bowie, so it was a busy week for those two, but they really showcased their talent and did a good job with each of their projects. John Fogerty also released a good protest
song called “Weeping in the Promised Land,” which touched on the murder of George Floyd.
This week won’t be so busy, with
only one major release, but it seems to be a rather important release to me.
One Night In Miami Soundtrack: This
is going to be an Amazon Prime movie, a biopic of Sam Cooke. Sam Cooke was a 1960s African-American
musician responsible for the songs “Chain Gang,” which I first heard through
The Nylons, and “A Change is Gonna Come,” covered last year by Los Coast and
Gary Clark Jr. He was murdered by a
racist hotel manager while staying there on the road. In this film, Leslie Odom Jr. of Hamilton
fame plays Sam Cooke, and African-American Christian Blues artist Keb Mo is
also on the soundtrack, I first heard him on the Touched By An Angel Soundtrack
when I was young. This looks to be a
good and important release and I’m really looking forward to it.
