Poetry of Heroes

755 home runs,

It doesn’t just happen.

It takes professionalism and skill.

It takes smacking the ball a mile year after year,

Being the best at what you do.

It takes the kind of greatness songs are written of, and were!

“Move over Babe,

Here comes Henry,

and he’s swingin’ mean!

Move over Babe,

Hank’s hit another,

he’ll break that 714!”

An African-American from Alabama became the all-time Home Run King in 1974,

“Sweet Home Alabama” indeed.

A hero to Atlanta and Milwaukee.

Hammerin’ Hank Aaron,

The greatest to hit home runs.

He was 86 and called home.

Two names atop the Classic Rock Pile: Glenn and Sammy

Glenn Hughes and Sammy Hagar

They didn’t find their bands, they didn’t create their most famous works of art,

Yet they triumph over Ian and David in my mind

They are the heroes of the 70s and 80s

They rock so hard,

Old school, crooning soulful voices

Breathing new life into “Smoke On The Water” and “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love”

Rockin’ like the ’92 Country Charts and BRC

Red, White and Blue Rockers

Whoa Yeah

Dead Daisies and The Circle

Rocking Hard Forever

Give Me “Burn,” Give Me “Right Now,”

Give Me “You Keep On Movin’”

The Kings of Chaos Forever!

Ms. Leigh, Ms. Platt,

Thank you for Ilia,

Thank you for Edelgard,

You gave voices to those who had no voice,

Identities to those who were just an acronym,

“I wanted you to look at ME that way!”

“That’d be a future I’d be interested in.”

They meant so much to me, and I’m a straight man!

But I have friends like that.

Friends who are women who love women

Friends who I’ve been working for and praying for

Fighting every day of my life for,

You made my fight less hard.

You made me breathe easier.

You made me believe in the future,

Which is now the present.

We still have a long way to go,

But for once in my life,

I believe we can get there.

You showed me that the future was possible

And Ms. Zech?

Thank you EVER SO MUCH for Blake.

Not just someone to fight for, but someone to fight with.

Someone I loved long before they held hands,

Long Before They were Protecting Each Other.

I will treasure that above all else,

Alongside “You called me El, that means more than I can say.”

Edeleth and Bumbleby

They are adorable and reasons to stand up

Reasons to preach for love

Reasons to fight until your last breath

Never doubt what you do is special

You are treasures among the treasure

Celebrate your strength and passion

God bless you

Smiles and hugs
