Setup for Wednesday's Fan Fiction

     This Wednesday, July 28th, I'll be posting a fan fiction related to the character Yang Xiao Long from the web series RWBY as that is her birthday.  I have decided it would be best to do the character introductions separately from the story so the post isn't too cluttered.

The blonde is our main character, Yang Xiao Long.  Her birth mother left her with her father, so she grew up with a stepmother and a half-sister; Ruby Rose.  Yang is definitely on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, she has strong feelings for her Huntress partner, Blake, also in the images.  Blake is a faunus, a human with animal traits, and used to work for the faunus rights group White Fang until it became more and more extremist.  It was the leader of this extremist faction that cut off Yang's right arm when she tried to save Blake from him.  Blake was so heartbroken that she had allowed Yang to get hurt she fled back to her home in Menagerie, a "faunus reservation," if you will.  Through stopping the extremists there and bonding with her parents, her friend Sun Wukong and her lesbian friend Ilia Amitola, Blake gained the courage to rejoin Team RWBY and resume being Yang's partner.  On the group's way to Atlas, Blake was sent to a power station, where Adam Taurus, the leader of the radical faction of the White Fang, ambushed her.  Yang arrived and the two stood together, Blake boldly declaring "She's not protecting me, Adam.  And I'm not protecting her.  We're protecting each other!"  The two had to end Adam's life to keep him from continuing to pursue them, enabling the mission to be a success.  Yang and Blake flirted a lot in Atlus, taking selfies together and dancing like goofballs, reminding me of my real-world lesbian friends.

 

Yang is an explosive ball of fire, a tough warrior who primarily uses punches to fight.  She is armed with gauntlets that can fire rockets, has incredible athletic ability and can absorb the force from attacks on her to increase her attack power, similar to Lucario's Aura ability in the Super Smash Bros. series.  I consider her the definition of a badass.

Ruby Rose here is Yang's younger half-sister and the leader of Team RWBY.  While she's the youngest and gets her thoughts going by stuffing herself with cookies, Ruby is a more competent leader than she appears, making emotional pleas to those who can be reasoned with and defeating the monstrous Grimm with gusto and fury.  She also has silver eyes, which hold immense power that may be the key to defeating Salem.  She can be hyperactive and sometimes overwhelmed by the events unfolding around her, but Ruby always strives to do the right thing for all, which can put her at odds with leaders who see casualties in the war between humanity and Salem as inevitable or even necessary.

 

 

 Weiss Schnee is Ruby's straightwoman best friend, the Jamie Hyneman to her Adam Savage at times.  She was the heir to the Schnee dust company, but has since been disinherited.  Her father has also just been murdered by a power-mad General Ironwood, who commanded Weiss' older sister Winter.  Winter ended General Ironwood and became the Winter Maiden, wielding tremendous power that can be used against Salem.  Weiss usually projects a very "no-nonsense" persona, but does have a soft side and cares for the members of her team deeply; letting Yang vent to her, partnering with Ruby while exploring an abandoned house and standing up for Blake after her persona prejudice was exposed.

 

Kali Belladonna, Blake's Mom.  She is a compassionate mother who sometimes embarrasses Blake in front of her friends.  She hasn't met Yang in the series proper, but I sometimes write fan fiction where she does.  She is voiced by Tara Platt (Edelgard-Fire Emblem; Three Houses/Fire Emblem Heroes, Mitsuru Kirijo/Elizabeth-Persona series, Temari-Naruto series)

Ilia Amitola, one of Blake's best friends and current leader of a reformed White Fang.  Ilia is a chameleon faunus, unlike Blake and Kali, who are cat faunuses.  This enables Ilia to change her skin color, hair color and such for disguises.  She had some frustration with Blake, when Blake (who is bisexual, as is her voice actress Arryn Zech) fell for Adam Taurus, even shouting during a confrontation "I wanted you to look at ME that way!"  Ilia is voiced by Cherami Leigh (Lucy Heartfilia-Fairy Tail, Makoto Niijima-Persona Series, Caeda, Cecilia, Mae, Rhea/Seiros/The Immaculate One-Fire Emblem Series)  The last credit makes her line "I'm sorry, Blake, but you and your family are holding the faunus back!" ironic.  "A Cherami Leigh character thinks a Tara Platt character is ruining everything?  That sounds familiar."

Saphron and Terra Cotta-Arc, a lesbian couple Teams RWBY and JNR met on the way to Atlas.  Saphron is one of the sisters of Jaune Arc, the leader of team JNR.  Her wife works on the city's communication and power grid, which enabled the Teams to try to seek passage to Atlas.  Saphron's the blond and Terra's the one with glasses.  They allowed both teams and Oscar to stay at their house while in town.  The two also have a baby boy named Adrian.
